THANKSGIVING DAY

        Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday celebrated primanily in the United States and Canada. Several other places around the world observe similar celebrations. It is celebrated on  the fourth Thursday of October in Canada. Thankdgivind day has its historical roots in religious traditions.
        In 1960, a boat filled with more than one hundred people sailed across the Atlantic Ocean to settle in the New World. This religious group had begun to question the beliefs of the Church of England and they wanted to separate from it. Their first winter in the New World was difficult. They had arrived too late to grow many crops, and without fresh food, half the colony died from disease. The following spring, the Iroquois Indians taught them how to grow corn, a new food for the colonists.
        In the autumn of 1621, bountiful crops of corn, borley, beans and pumpkins were harvested. The colonists had much to thankful for, so a feast was planned.
       The Indians brought deer to roast with the turkeys and other wild game offered by the colonists. The colonists had learned how to cook cranberries and different kinds of corn and squash dishes from the Indians.
       In following years, many of the original colonists celebrated the auntumn with a feast of thanks. After United States became an independent country, Congress recommended one yearly day of thanksgiving for the whole nation to celebrate.

HELP PEOPLE

          A few years ago, John waas walking on the street, and he saw someone suspicious. A man was chasing an elderly woman. After a while, he heard a scream. He turned around and he saw that the man had already stolen the elderly woman's bag. He didn't worry so much about it.
          A few days later, he saw the same man waiting in a queue of a supermarket and he knew, what was going to happen, but he didn't do anything for help. Then, someone stole the wallet of a man. the police asked to the clients of the supermarket If they had seen something but John didn't say anything.
          A few weeks later, the same situations happened, that one of the persons was John.
          John would like someone to help him to prevent the robbery. He had never helped anyone, until he was the victim. After that, he promised, he would help anyone.

SLEEPING ALL NIGHT MAY NOT BE NORMAL

          Researchers are finding that eight hours of sleep may not be the best way to spend the night.
          In the past, it was common for periods of sleep to be broken into segments. Before electricity and the modern age, people went to sleep earlier. They slept for three or four hours, got up for a few hours and went back to bed.
          While they were up at night, people thought a lot and said it was a time for them to do their best thinking. They sometines used the period to make love.
          Researches are also talking about periods of "deep sleep". It is a sleep in which the body most refreshes itself. It is different than a period of dreaming, called "rapid eyeball movement" (REM). When you are in REM, the brain is as active as it is during yhe day.
          There is also good news about naps. Naps as short as 24 minutes can include uo to 24 minutes of deep sleep. Researchers find that workers are more alert and better able to solve problems after taking naps.
          It might be a good idea for workers to ask for nap breaks rather than coffee breaks.

DARKER SKINS CAN GET TOO MUCH SUN

          Dermatologists say dark skin offers more natural protection from the sun's harmful rays than light skin. Horewer, no one is immune to damage from the sun.

          Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, And Native Americans naturally produce more of a chemical called melanin. This chemical affects skin color and absorbs damaging ultraviolet (UV) rays. Very dark-skinned people have a natural skin protection factor (SPF) of up to 13. Thai is twice as much UV radiation protection as fair-skinned people.

          Health experts advise everyone to use sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15. Dark-skinned people are still susceptible to damage from the sun. They get sunspots, wrinkles-and cancer.

          Companies make a variety of products in addition to sun screen to shield people from the sun's rays, including clothing, shoes, makeup, umbrellas, and even some detergents.

          Many products do what they are supposed to do-protect people from absorbing UV rays. But experts say, 'When it comes to sun protection, you cannot beat a dark shirt with a tight weave and a good hat. There is a lot you can do and not spend a lot of money.

CAUTION ABOUT INFANTS AND ANTIBIOTICS

           Young farm animals are given antibiotics to gain weight. A new study says antibiotics might do the same thing to babies.
           When infants use antibiotics in the first six months of life, they are more likely to be overweight at three years of age.
            An author of the study says, 'It does not mean that antibiotics are bad for you'. But the findings say parents should be concerned 'about inappropriate use of antibiotics'.
            It may mean that obesity is not just about diet and exercise.

DEAD BODY FOUND IN FLAT

          A dead body was discovered with its hands tied together and a plastic bag on its head in house in Ontinyent (Valencia) this week.

          The 38 years old male victim is thought to have been dead in his home for weeks before being discovered.

          A neighbour called the police reporting a terrible smell coming from the front door of the flat on Almaig avenue.

          The ploce discovered the long-dead corpse lying on a bed an all the blinds closed.

          An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances of the death taht all signs seem to suggest was violent and part of a crime.
